I think it is great when companies can get legends of any sport to come together and promote a product even if it means poking a little fun at your former self.
Most of you know that Bo Jackson was one of the hardest working, hardest running backs to tackle in the NFL. He was a rare combination of speed, size and finesse at the running back position the NFL had ever seen. He was also a stud of a baseball player as well.
Then we have Brian Bosworth. The Boz was a great college linebacker at Oklahoma and came to the NFL with a lot of hype and to live up to his persona, he didn’t mince words. Before the first game the two would be on opposite sides, Boz practically promised to single handedly stop Bo. Things didn’t go according to plan. Bo plowed over Boz and had a great game.
So enter Kia’s genius Tecmo Bowl advertising where Bo is cruising down the field and takes the hand off as he is driving the 2017 Kia Sorento, just as he is heading toward the endzone, there is Boz between him and the goal line. Bo stops and Boz gets in and says thanks for not running me over and Bo says, “You mean, again.” Boz says just drive and they ride into the endzone. It says a lot about Brian’s character as a person to do a commercial like this, as well as speaking volumes for Kia’s ad campaign. This is a great commercial all the way around.
